We chatted to Tristan about his time at Collarts – he graduated in 2022 – and his process of songwriting and production.
I wouldn’t have produced this without my time at Collarts, especially the confidence I gained to trust my creative decisions. The track is guitar-heavy, and techniques I learned in Recording Studio Techniques (RST) helped me nail the mix. My production and songwriting units at Collarts also taught me how to build tension and make the song feel full but not cluttered.
I wrote this track with just an acoustic guitar, focusing purely on songwriting before any production. This song felt more personal, so I decided to produce and mix it myself, with mastering done by Klaus Hill and input from some talented friends.
I want to keep growing creatively, whether working on my own music or collaborating with artists, like 360, Ally Rendall, and Noah Vernon. My goal is to create meaningful music and turn ideas into art.
