Collarts is excited to announce that we have signed on as a Major Partner for Melbourne Fashion Week, Australia’s premier fashion event for 2023 - 2025! While we look forward to an amazing three years, here’s an insight into what this partnership will include in 2023.

From October 23 to October 29, you can expect a packed program celebrating the city’s fashion scene and spotlighting emerging, independent & established designers and brands around the country.

The partnership will see Collarts presenting the M/FW Underground Runway hosting around 1,200 guests, featuring designers focused on sustainable practices. Collarts students and alumni will also have the opportunity to see their work showcased on the runway, with Fashion & Sustainability graduate designs being on display, as well as current students creating accessories to be used in the runway show.

M/FW 2023 Ambassador Ayesha Madon says “When I was living in Melbourne, I fell in love with the city’s vibrant and eclectic fashion scene, I love local designers Perple, Strateas Carlucci and Erik Yvon and can’t wait to discover more.”

Ahead of M/FW’s Underground Runway at Waterfall Lane, Collarts and M/FW will be hosting Melbourne’s fashion industry elite to network and hear from the legendary M/FW team who bring the week together; Runway Stylist Joseph Romano, Event Manager Matthew Flinn and Event Producer Kate Hannaford from MOTH.

Collarts Head of School of Design, Dr. Rachel Mathews, and Head of Fashion & Sustainability, Sarah Conners hosted a Fashion Sustainability Roundtable at George Street campus that included the likes of Marketing and Communications Managers, Graphic Designers, Fashion Designers & Creative Directors. Panelists discussed policy and practices, as well as the role sustainability takes in fashion.

“Melbourne Fashion Week is a staple on fashion-lovers’ calendars, delivering a showstopping celebration of our incredible local creatives and designers who make us Australia;s fashion capital.” Lord Mayor Sally Capp

The event will continue to champion home-grown talent with more than 85 per cent of participating designers, stylists, models, students and retailers from Melbourne. Attendees can look forward to a showcase of emerging, independent, and established designers and brands, with an ongoing celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and diverse cultures, and the return of the popular Student Collections Runway.

There will be key Fashion & Sustainability workshops and industry insight sessions hosted by Collarts included in the Independent Program:

Students will also have the opportunity to be involved in key front and back-of-house volunteering roles.

“Working with Melbourne Fashion Week gives Collarts students the amazing opportunity to see first hand what it takes to create a successful fashion week event and work with the creatives that make it all happen. Our students are also getting the opportunity to use their sustainable design skills in the real world, creating fashion that is exciting and aligns with their values.” says Sarah Conners.
