Co-created with our students, we’ve launched this high-impact campaign to shift the conversation around ATARs and recognise that your talent, hard work and resilience are much more important than a number.
Creativity is not a number. Neither are you.
Year 12 students and their parents feel immense pressure to achieve a certain ATAR, desperately trying to jump over the hurdles set by universities. But in the end, regardless of your ATAR, there are multiple pathways to study the course you want.
The current education system in Australia is also set up to favour certain fields, like STEM, and creative fields are often overlooked and “marked down”. But the reality is, creativity and artistry are just as valuable.
In the rapidly changing world of work, creativity and innovation are needed now more than ever.
Our students Mary-Jane, Wolf and Tom have banded together to reflect on their year 12 journeys and prove that ATAR scores do not determine your future or happiness. In this campaign, each student’s ATAR score literally smashes while they show us a glimpse into their creative worlds. They’re now thriving in their chosen creative fields at Collarts, and their ATARs have no power over their potential or success.
“There are so many more important things to value as a person than a number, and I think in school I would’ve loved to hear that. You are so much more than a number.”
Fashion & Sustainability student Mary-Jane shares her story of feeling the pressures of achieving a high ATAR and finding her creative calling at Collarts.
“The way I perceive success right now I’d say is probably doing things I enjoy, and that matters so much more to me than a number.”
For Digital and Social Media Student Wolf, finding his creative potential and what he truly enjoys was the key to moving past the unnecessary pressures of year 12.
“I thought my ATAR would be a barrier to my success. Finding out about Collarts, knowing that there’s a pathway to follow MY dreams, while also not having to worry about my ATAR, was amazing.”
He went from feeling the heavy pressure of ATAR expectations in high school, to now killing it in Music Performance! He also just released a new single with his band, Hazy Skies!
Regardless of what you get, an ATAR score is not a measure of your worth, potential or future success.
