Songwriting Workshop

This engaging and practical workshop will teach students the fundamentals of writing a song including: Methods of writing, genre, common song structure, lyric writing and melody. They will be given examples and tasks throughout the workshop to allow them to understand all the elements involved in writing a song.

Given this knowledge, students will partake in an exercise to write a song verse and chorus of a chosen genre in the workshop. 

Students are also given the opportunity to perform and share their own pieces for feedback, advice and inspiration. 

This workshop is delivered by a Collarts industry professional with extensive experience in songwriting. 

Workshop duration: 1-1.5hours depending on class schedule

Music industry: Design an event

Students will learn about a range of events they may encounter when working within the entertainment industry. They will gain knowledge of the business side of the industry as well as the tasks that are involved when managing an event.

Working within a guideline, in this workshop students will create and design their own music festival. They must research, problem solve and be creatively minded to come up with unique and practical ideas of how to curate an event.

They will cover different components of a festival such as theme, catering, production, safety and structure.

This workshop is delivered by a Collarts industry professional with extensive experience in events and festivals.

Workshop duration: 1-1.5hours depending on class schedule

Music industry: Release your Music

One of biggest challenges for a young musician is releasing their music to reach an audience. What can seem like an expensive and daunting process can actually be fun and easily achievable with some online tools and guidance. 

The Release Your Music workshop explores how to pull together all the elements required to create a release, including press photos, a biography and artwork to then distribute your music on Spotify, iTunes, Soundcloud and Youtube.

This highly interactive workshop is designed to empower and inspire musicians at any level.

This workshop is delivered by a Collarts industry professional with extensive experience in the music industry.

Workshop duration: 1-1.5hours depending on class schedule

Auditioning and interviewing for Higher ED

The process of an audition or interview can be quite daunting for students who have not experienced them before which can then affect the way in which they perform during the audition/interview. Collarts are delivering mock auditions/interviews for Year 12 students at their school to familiarise them with the manner of an interview/audition and what they should expect from the process.  Students will learn how to prepare for the audition or interview, what to do on the day, techniques to perform confidently and how to receive and improve through constructive feedback.

This workshop is delivered by a Collarts admissions professional with extensive experience in conducting interviews and auditions. 

Workshop duration: 1–1.5 hours depending on class schedule

Performance Feedback

For solo or group performances, this workshop can be beneficial for students with performance exams. Have an industry professional come into your class to watch students perform their pieces and provide them with positive and constructive feedback to develop their performance ability for their assessments during or at the end of the year.
