Adam King

Adam is a drummer and percussionist with a keen interest in challenging the possibilities of rhythm, drawing inspiration from musical cultures that have deep rhythmic traditions.

As a percussionist he has studied Balinese Gamelan extensively and has performed professionally with many of Bali’s most renowned musicians, composers and orchestras. As a drummer Adam has performed and toured internationally with many different ensembles, including the Australian Art Orchestra, of which he is a current collaborator.

In 2012 Adam was invited to perform in India as part of the collaboration between the Australian Art Orchestra and a leading South Indian group, Sruthi Laya, lead by mridangam maestro Guru Karaikudi R Mani. Adam’s performance with this group in Brisbane earned them the 2013 APRA Performance of the Year.

Adam has also performed, recorded with Labjacd (Latin Hip-hop group), The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra (large Afro-beat ensemble), Umlaut (lead by Mr Bungle’s Bar McKinnon), Maya Hasan (Indonesian Harpist) and Hiatus Kaiyote (2014 album release).
