Best known as an award-winning singer/songwriter, Ella Hooper has a career that developed from the rock of Killing Heidi to the alt-folk of the Verses and the revealing songs of Ella Hooper solo.
Ella has won four Arias and written several top-ten hits including a number one album and single. Ella’s first album, Reflector, has multi-platinum status and her singles are widely played and streamed, while her impressive back catalogue cements her as a part of Australian music history.
Originally from country Victoria, Ella has performed in Europe, Asia and the United States. Within Australia, Ella has played major festivals such as Big Day Out, Falls Festival and Day on The Green as well as smaller, boutique events like Tasmania’s Festival of Voices where she debuted an all-female vocal side project called Tresses. Ella has also toured as support for some of the biggest acts in the world, including Fleetwood Mac. Conversations with Stevie Nicks during that tour was what prompted the release of Ella’s first solo album, In Tongues, in 2014.
On the media front Ella regularly appears on ABC television and radio and was team captain on the ABC’s reboot of popular TV show Spicks and Specks. Ella has also co-hosted her own national radio show on the 2Day network, scooping an ACRA (radio award) in her first year and hosted accompanying TV show Radar focusing on breaking new and local music.
Current projects include touring with SBS’s RocKwiz Live, working as a songwriting mentor and host with Telstra and Bank of Melbourne and filming a music documentary for Red Bull.
Ella is currently producing a new EP titled New Magic to compliment Venom which was launched earlier in 2016, garnering high praise from music critics.
