Music Technology Teacher

Patrick Marks, aka Pataphysics, is an MC, producer, trumpet player and audio engineer.

Patrick is a Mercury-Prize-winning producer for his work with Speech Debelle (Ninja Tune). He has worked with local and international labels, producing and remixing a list of artists that include 360, Fear of a Brown Planet, Hau (Koolism), Lotek feat Roots Manuva and The Flybz with Paul Kelly.

His debut album, Subversive, features the likes of Stic-Man and Rob Swift and was named among the top 15 releases of 2012 by The Australian Music Prize. As an accomplished trumpet player, Patrick’s trumpet stylings have featured on recordings alongside Rob Swift, S1 (Strange Fruit Project/Eminem), Braille, Ohmega Watts, Othello, Rosie Burgess, Dialectrix, 1/6 , Skryptcha, and Ishu. His exceptional music career has seen him tour Australia numerous times, he has played festivals such as Laneway, Big Sound and Peats Ridge, and he is part of an experimental improvisational trio and a nine-piece funk collective.

Patrick’s music work has extended to film and television, including writing the theme song for Legally Brown on SBS and his musical works have featured in the National Gallery of Victoria. He is also the Music Coordinator for R.I.S.E (Refugees, Survivors, and Ex-detainees), where he runs music, beat making, and poetry workshops, as well as providing recording and production for young artists.
