Whether guiding a performance through the rehearsal process or using the nuances of sound and light to bring a scene to life, the stage management and technical production team are at the heart of every production. It's a challenging role, but our Stage Management course arms you with everything you need to excel in the industry. Whether you want to work on small-scale shows or major productions, our experienced lecturers will guide you to a place of confidence.
With units focusing on theatre studies, stage management projects, technical production, and critical thinking, you will gain the knowledge and skills to pursue a career in stage management and develop a fundamental awareness of the practices and responsibilities of all roles involved in a performing arts production.
Our courses are designed to make you career-ready, so you’ll have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in sought-after industry placements. The stage manager is a challenging but highly rewarding role for those who love the theatre but hate the spotlight. This course offers an extensive look at stage management and coordination within the performing arts, including stage and theatre.
Throughout the degree, you will:

Scholarships
Scholarships are now available for international students and valid for all international study applications from March 2024. Kickstart your creative studies while we ease the financial load – eligible students can receive up to $11,000 AUD for a Bachelor or up to $3,600AUD for a Diploma.
Eligibility criteria:
Applicants must submit a 300-word statement along with their application explaining why they should be awarded the scholarship.
Approved applicants must comply with their visa conditions and obligations as Collarts students.
Applicants must meet Collarts entry requirements.
Scholarships are limited and awarded at the discretion of the Collarts International Team.
Valid for applications received in 2024.
Students must pay their fees on time to maintain eligibility.
Students must maintain a credit (65%) average or above in their Collarts studies to maintain eligibility.

At Collarts, we aim to provide you with the skills required for a career while also showing you the practical steps to work towards a role in the performing arts industry.
Play a pivotal role in the successful execution of theatrical productions. Work closely with the director, production team, and cast to handle various tasks to ensure the smooth running of rehearsals and performances. Organise and manage all logistical aspects of the production.
Runs a theatre venue for either a private operator or local council. This includes the hiring of staff, maintaining the facilities as well as the allocation and upkeep of technical equipment.
Taking cues from the Mise en Scène of a performance, lighting designers craft and oversee the lighting for a diverse array of productions, including plays, musicals, operas, concerts, tours, television and movie sets, and art installations.

We would like you to present a summary of your written statement at the start of your interview. You can do this however you like - you can simply read what you've written, memorise key points and talk about them with us, or turn it into an informal presentation.
Yes! The course is very practical and you will be collaborating with Acting and Writing & Directing on productions only 12 weeks into the course!
Online presentations are available for all Performing Arts applicants if you're interstate or remote. The process remains the same, the audition/presentation is just conducted 1 to 1 via Zoom with the course head instead of a group presentation. If you can't attend then you can get in touch by calling 1300 818 777 between 9am and 5pm (Melbourne time).
