The Society of Tastemakers & Elegant People (aka STEP) host regular Melbourne music get togethers that combine industry panel discussions and live music performances.
Since launching in mid-2014, STEP has run a number of successful panel events, featuring a range of music industry experts speaking on various issues and topics concerning the Australian music community.
Off the back of hugely successful panel events such as ‘Young Labels’, ‘The Managers’ and ‘The Artist’ which featured the likes of Jen Cloher, Anthony Fantano, Osker Key Sung and many more speaking about their experiences within the Australian music community.
The latest STEP event ‘Melbourne – The Music Capital’ will take place on Wednesday, April 15 at The Toff in Town. ‘Melbourne – The Music Capital’ panel discussion will feature Nick O’Byrne (manager of Milwaukee Banks and Courtney Barnett, and program director of BIGSOUND), Woody McDonald (RRR, and booker of Meredith and Golden Plains), Mikey Cahill (senior music writer at the Herald Sun), Simon Winkler (RRR Music Director and Presenter), and Lucy Buckeridge (Publicist at EMI and singer/bass player of Lowtide).
‘Melbourne – The Music Capital’ discussion will cover a variety of topics dear to Melbourne music lovers’ hearts: how and why it is that our local artists such as Courtney Barnett and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are making it big overseas, the launches and closures of so many small and mid-scale live music venues, the rise of the boutique festival, an insight to Melbourne’s community radio stations, upcoming bands and so much more.
Local soul outfit The Harpoons will close the night with a very special performance, and Broadway Sounds will be playing a DJ set of Melbourne’s finest Afro-Pop before the panel discussion.
