A note from Collarts Dean, Professor Tim Moss

Why is creativity more important than ever?

At a fundamental level, creativity is becoming more and more important as we deal with more complex and fast-changing problems and opportunities.

Creativity is the capacity for creating something new. It can be applied in many disciplines. It can be about creating new works, new designs, new performances. But the great part about it is that once you have developed the skills and mindset that enables you to be creative, you can apply these skills to a wide range of problems. They’re transferable.

The World Economic Forum has identified creativity as one of the most important skills in 2023. As time goes on, we will need more creativity, not less. Creativity was also the number one skill demanded two years in a row by LinkedIn, who analysed over twenty million job ads, and described creativity as the most important skill in the world.

At Collarts, our graduates will be extremely well-positioned to not only survive but also thrive in this new world of work.

They can not just solve problems, but have the capacity to actually work out what the right problems are in the first place. They can collaborate with others, identify how different skill sets can be combined to achieve more than what any one individual could produce.

And, they can do this while remaining aware of their impact, they can consider the social and ethical dimensions of their decisions, and they can even produce some interesting, engaging, evocative, powerful, and meaningful creative work.

Taking the next step

Help your child find their ideal course

We offer a wide range of courses covering Music & Audio, Fashion, Film & Theatre, Management, Writing & Communications, Games & Animation, and Design, with both Bachelor degrees and Diplomas available. Explore our course pages to see if they align with your child’s skills, ambitions and future career plans.

Check the entry requirements

Depending on your child’s chosen course, there will be a selection of entry requirements that they must satisfy in order to study at Collarts.
We do not take an ATAR score into consideration for entry. Students studying VCE (or the state equivalent) will be eligible for entry into the Bachelor degree, while students studying the VCE-VM will be eligible for entry into the Diploma and use that as a pathway into the Bachelor. (Please note, this is subject to potential admission policy changes.)
